What is inhibited sexual desire problem in menIf you or your partner has lost interest in sex, you end up too tired for sex; you are frustrated and angry about not having sex or you are not compatible with your partner about how frequently to have sex; these are indications of inhibited sexual desire (ISD). Persons suffering from ISD don’t initiate the action of sex and neither do they react with their partner’s desire for intercourse.

Characteristics of Inhibited Sexual Desire

  • ISD can be primary or secondary. In primary ISD, a person has never felt much sex drive, while secondary ISD signifies a man who was sexually active before but no more.
  • ISD can be individual specific, i.e. the person is sexually aroused by others but not by their spouse; or general in which he isn’t aroused sexually by anybody.
  • In extreme instances of ISD, a person not only enhances interest in sexual activity but finds sex repulsive.
  • Sometimes the sex drive isn’t inhibited but only different from the partner. The interest level in getting sex is standard in both the partners but they don’t match with each other.
  • Some folks are sexually overactive and they assert that their partner has ISD. Such persons could be demanding in having sex.

The most common cause of inhibited sexual appetite is absence of intimate sense for the partner. Problems in communication, lack of affection, conflicts, power struggles and not having the ability to spend time together can make it. Diseases and some drugs may also lead to ISD, particularly the ones that are associated with fatigue, pain, or some other sense of not being well.

A lack of several kinds of hormones can occasionally be the cause too. Psychological factors which cause depression and too much stress can diminish sexual appetite. Hormonal changes also have an impact on the libido.

Some aspects that cause ISD is easily overlooked. Insomnia or absence of sleep is one of them. It induces fatigue which in turn contributes to ISD. The emotional factor associated with specific sexual dysfunctions could lead to disinterest in sexual intercourse.

A woman with pain during intercourse or a man with erection difficulties wouldn’t be interested in sex, not too much for the inability but since it becomes associated with failure. Childhood sexual abuse, rape and unions without emotional intimacy are primarily accountable for inhibited sexual desire.
